Hey all, I am very new here. I would be having my asd closure this week. Any one had their asd closed with a Gore cardioform occluder device? How did it go? Please I need some encouragement, thanks. Akek
Hi - I had my ASD closed with a Gore Cardioform Septal Occluder approximately one year ago. I was very worried going into the procedure (especially because my ASD diagnosis was a complete shock since I had no apparent symptoms). One year later I can honestly say the worst part about it was the nervousness prior to the procedure. The only post-procedure “symptom” I had was a racing heart for a few days, as well as random PVCs here and there. I exercise regularly (weight training, running 20-30 miles per week) and feel good. Hello, I had my PFO closed two years ago with a GORE®CARDIOFORM Septal Occluder following having a Stroke which resulted in them large hole as the cause, best thing I ever had done as my cardiovascular exercise performance came back 15-20 miles hiking and I’m now not likely 99% to not have another Stroke. I had some extra heart “flutters” /beats for a while but they have gone and nothing to worry about better than having a Stroke! So I feel fabulous right now and with the hole closed I know I’m safer from another Stroke. Hope this helps …

Hi Kay. I hope your surgery went well. I had mine closed on November 2011 and because of a very self-imposed physical fitness regiment, I was told (by my cardiologist) that my closure at that time healed better than any he’s ever seen. So, give yourself time to heal but feel free to ramp up your exercise and surpass your former limits. Good luck.

Hi @LM26! Those are some interesting notes… thank you for pointing it out as others who have it can find comfort in knowing that you’ve come out of it quickly and safely. I am wondering however, how long did it take you to get back to your exercise routine? That’s quite the rigorous routine and it’s encouraging to hear for all of us!

How are you doing now @Kay? I hope the responses were of some help to you, and we are hoping it all went well! I understand that you are also pregnant, and that reminds me that one of our newer members, @mel , also learned of her ASD during her pregnancy. She had attempted a device closure, and says she is generally asymptomatic. I hope things are going okay with you @mel, and I was wondering if you had any suggestions or perspectives for @Kay?
